There’s no reason why you can’t, as parents, decide to make resolutions no matter what time of year it is.

Consider making these twelve resolutions, one for each month of the year.

1. Add adventure to your schedule. It is so easy to get locked into doing the same things over and over. Think of things you can do as a family that will add adventure to your life. One idea is to try geocaching – hide a “treasure” and let your children try to find it using the hints you provide.

2. Teach for long-term good financially. You can do this by teaching your children about money, how to save it and how to manage it successfully. The more they understand this now, the better they’ll be prepared to do so in the future.

3. Teach for long-term good academically.

4. Teach about work ethics. Help your children understand the importance of doing their best no matter what they’re doing. Having a good work ethic will only benefit your child as they go through school and begin their career.

5. Redefine “success.” Even though you may want your child to get all A’s, not all children will be able to meet this goal. Let your children know that if a C is the best grade they can get, you will be satisfied with this effort.

6. Avoid one-size-fits-all methods. Each child is an individual and it is important to treat them as such. While you don’t want to show favoritism, you do want to treat them according to their age, maturity and interests.

7. Read with your child. Even if your children are older, having a family read-along can make a huge difference in how well your child enjoys reading.

8. Cook at home more often. It used to be that parents and children ate together as a family every night. This isn’t the case these days because there are business meetings, sports, scouting, religious and volunteering activities to keep a family busy. And, what makes matters worse, sometimes the entire family is going in different directions all at once.

9. Declutter your home. It is amazing how much time is lost each year by having a cluttered home. If things are organized, you can find your children’s shoes, their homework and your car keys because you know where they are kept.

10. Stop comparing yourself with others. Even though a parent’s tendency is to compare themselves with other parents, this is not helpful to your own self-esteem. No one else has your children or your life, so it doesn’t make sense to compare yourself with other people.

11. Allow yourself to feel. Children aren’t afraid to cry if they become overwhelmed or things aren’t going their way. As a parent, it’s alright if you need to cry sometimes, too. Perhaps you don’t want to let your children see how upset you are, but it can help to lean on your partner when needed.

12. Take care of your relationship as parents. Don’t forget that one of the most important resolutions you can make is to take care of your relationship with your spouse or partner. Go out on “date nights” to maintain a healthy connection and ensure your children have happy parents.

Obviously, there are many other things you can do to make your family life better. However, if you work on one of these resolutions each month, you will be surprised how much your relationship with your partner and children can improve.

Read More of This Article Here: https://valuecare.webcoreweb.com/12-resolutions-every-parent-should-keep/

Each year millions of people make New Year’s resolutions.
